A Note From the Jar
The perfect scrabble move. (Photo/Mary Mayo)

Dear my four loyal readers,

Thank you for following along with my adventures for the past twelve weeks. This is not a farewell, but rather a transition into the next chapter of TheMayoJar.

I'm wrapping up my time at the newspaper and finishing my email newsletter class this semester. Both have been incredible teachers, but they also mean TheMayoJar is entering a new season.

I'm moving into a gallery role where I'll be helping a local art gallery with their weekly newsletter and focusing more on arts coverage and artist profiles around NYC. I would still like to document my daily life and this new career change, so I am choosing to continue this newsletter as a personal journal.

I commend this semester for keeping my newsletter on a schedule. However, I have major procrastination issues, so while the newsletter currently operates on a weekly basis, it will probably transform into a monthly thing.

I have reached a lot of milestones in my journalism career while working for the local paper, including publishing over a dozen stories covering different beats and topics, as well as making the front page of the paper twice!

I'm happy my newsletter has allowed me to share this journey and reflect what a trip this has been.

I have linked below some of my favorite newsletters I have published over the past semester that also showcase the evolution of The Mayo Jar:

-An Ode to February : Features one of my favorite stories I completed during my time at the newspaper and some of my proudest interview moments. I found this topic so interesting and I'm glad to have had this platform to share my observations and connections to this piece.

-Things That Stay : A short but true expression of my love for physical media and analog, shoutout newspapers!

-Warm Weather Weirdness : I love highlighting community in the city. This winter was long and brutal, it's nice to be able to capture that moment when the city finally shakes off the gray and comes back to life.

Thank you for reading and experiencing these small moments of life with me.

Until next time,

—Mary
